20 y.o. house w/vinal siding that needs replacing. Im looking for low maintenance, DIY if possible. A "real" brick and mortor veneer is to costly. Really do not want vinal or Aluminum. I like wood but age may prohibit future maintenance.
I've seen NovaBrik on some home improvement TV shows. The local Menards is a distributer, as a special order. Basically its a pre-cast concrete that you drill/screw into a 1x4 grid over the existing framing. Claims a 50 year warrentee on the product.
Anyone know anything more-good or bad? Thanks for your time.

Finished building a new house 2 yrs ago. I used novabrik for a wainscote. Works slick and looks good, one of the neighbors is a mason and even he was impressed. Takes a bit of thinking ahead and some creative carpentry but if you take your time it looks really good. Nove briks website has downloadable installation manuals. If you need some ideas let me know and I'll do what I can.

Put nova brick on my Dad"s house a couple of years ago. I was impressed with how quickly it went on. Doors and windows were a bit tricky planning the cuts but turned out nice with the trim pieces.

the NovaBrick I put on required installing vertical bats over house wrap first. Then the bricks were put on with a screw holding every third or fourth to the bats. There was a special piece for the window sills, lintel and top of the wall. The problem was getting the piece supporting the specials cut just right. But a skil saw with a carborundum blade worked slick.

So you don"t like the average vinyl siding? Why don"t you look into cedar impressions. Nicer look , and much more durable. About double the cost of the average vinyl siding. Many brand names out there. The ones I like best are made by Mastic. They look more like the real wood shakes , and don"t fade out like the others. Should I reside my house , that"s what I"ll be useing.

Personal preference, wife and I like brick. We've seen some of the concrete wood kinda product, we're leaning more to the brick.

A friend has a small commercial building that has the Nova brick as a wainscot. Looks pretty good. From a distance you can"t tell it"s not real brick. Close inspection, you can, but it still looks good. I noticed some areas that werent flashed very well that will allow moisture and so forth around windows and doors to get in eventually. How does the price compare with other maintenance free products? Don"t know. If I were doing it it I think I would want treated 1x"s on the walls to attach it too and the best stainless or whatever screws to hold it all together.

They claim you don't need pressure treated, nor stainless. For brick alone $5.25 sq/ft.

I am a home builder and what I've seen of the NovaBrik I am not impressed with. The problem comes when you have to finish around your overhangs, doors and windows. Something about this area always ends up looking cobbled. The wall area does look fine though.

Your vinyl siding went bad? Sounds like a defective product. I saw on TV a year or 2 ago a product that looks like wood lap board siding but is a heavy plastic/epoxy or something. Dont remember the warranty buy it looked nice and durable. I have never heard of Novabrik.
