Where can I find repair info for a non-working electronic odometer and an intermittent RPM gauge?
There's nothing in Chilton, Motors or Mitchell about how they work or repair info for these units. It's for an '89 2.5L Chrysler product.

Check out>Link
They>Link manufacture OEM cruise controllers. You may be able to find repair info or replacement parts there.

Check for a pulsed input from the speed and rpm sensors. If a pulsed signal is being made and is getting into the dash cluster. And if the dash cluster is getitng power and is properly "grounded" has a return path to (-). If all this exists the clucter is likely expired.

Just a thought, about all GM vehicles are "drive by wire" this is the technical term for cableless controlls. The federal law requires all vehicles to use OBD-2 engine manegement systems wich are normally wire driven. those cars that have cables yet had to be redesigned to work with cables.

The cluster will have to be removed and sent out. There is nothing owner servicible in them which is why there is no repair section for them in the manual. They are vehicle specific which requires them to be calibrated to the exact vehicle they are installed in. Try Southern Electronics 1-800-572-2880 All they do is dash cluster repairs.

Happy Easter Slowpoke.

Geeze, you have me on that one. After a fuse on the non-working speedometer, I have no clue. As for an intermittant tach, I'm thinking a loose wire. For my Cummins Dodges, I have a Haynes brand manual, and has the wiring diagrams for them. You didn't list Haynes as one of the manuals that you've tried. Might try there. Do have mine.

Years ago I picked up a 4x4 magazine out of boredom and was reading it. Had an article on huge mudder type of tires and how affected the ABS, so I started reading. Was an eye opener. They used an '88 Chevy pickup as their...test vehicle. I learned two things from that. That the gas peddle wasn't actually connected to anything other than electronics, and was spring loaded to make the operator "feel good" in that prior to that, all gas peddles were actually cable and spring loaded to a carb or whatever. So gives the operator the sensation of having a spring loaded cable going to the injectors, but really doesn't go anywhere other than to electronics (computer). WOW!!! Then I learned that when these guys put those big Monster Mudders and stuff on their trucks, have to recalibrate their computers because throws the ABS way off. Apparently the ABS calculates the distance that it will take to stop at a given speed, and does so. So these guys get these huge tires and are actually moving faster than the transmission (speedometer) calculates because of the tire diameter. So, the speedomter (trans) says is only going 30, but because of the tire diameter might be actually be moving 40 or... They hit the brake peddle, the computer says "doing 30, will take x amount of feet to stop", and they drive right over the back of someone's vehicle because the computer had no way of knowing was actually moving 40 or... WOW!!! Electronics. I guess that they all work that way now.

Luckily, my vehicles don't have ABS. It's just something else to go wrong.

Actually most gas vehicle gas pedals are directly connected to either the carb or throttle body. Some of the newer and highend vehicles are throttle by wire such as the Corvettes and probably the Mercedes and BMW's. Now for diesels from around '94 on most are throttle by wire also including the big rigs.
