OT: Fuel pump, '93 Jeep Cherokee

Any body know an easier way to replace the in-tank fuel pump besides removing the gas and dropping the tank? There's a lot of trim holding the carpet down.
Is there an access under the carpet that's not mentioned in the manual?

There will be a mesh "sock" on the bottom of pump it is a pre filter to protect pump rotor from chunks. Most of the time the are able to be reused after a slight flush in clean solvent or fuel.

I don't know of a ispection plate in the floor but it is no big deal to drop the tank and replace the pump. You don't have to drain the tank dry, just be careful with open fuel around.

fuel pump on this, maybe could not suck
fuel thru internal fuel pump? ken

I replaced one in my brother-in-laws jeep a couple of years ago, it came out the back of the tank. Didn't need to drop. It might have been a couple years older though.

I replaced a pump on a '95 Neon a couple of years ago. Access was from the side and not too difficult. The Cherokee is on the top. Both are Chrysler products as is your Jeep. Why can't the engineers all use the side or back location instead of a dumb place like the top? It's probably a $400-500 shop bill.

Drop the tank,,,not that hard to do ,,make sure you put new fuel filter on too.

Filter is external to tank. Of course there could be some sort of filter on the pump itself.
