Nuts and Bolts

I just spent few frustrating hours looking for a decent general maintanence type assortment kit of common size nuts, bolts, self tapping screws, pan heads, washers, etc.etc. on the internet. The choices are mind boggling.

Does anyone out there have a reliable source for these pre-
sorted general kits ? Local hardware and big box stores stores don't carry 'em around here. All I want is a plastic bin with zinc plated hardware for medium duty use.
The Northern Tool catalog doesn't offer much either.

My budget is around $70-$100. Thanks for any suggestions.

My local John Deere Dealer has all kinds of Grade 5 by the pound. Can't remember the price per pound but have good selection. That way you can buy only what sizes you need.

We have Rural King farm stores around here. Have bins full of different sizes and grades. Grade 2 not worth taking home but grade 5 not to bad. They have 20 percent off days and I stock up,1.29 a # I think. Take them home and throw them in buckets or hog pans. Getting fancy now,got some bins.

If you have a place that sell all kind of fastners and cotter pins nuts bolts washers. they usually sell what they call "Floor sweepings" buy it by the lb. take it home and sort it out,I buy a box of about 100 lbs at a time. these places don't have time to sort them so they just "Sweep" them and it a good deal. Try it you'll like it! Jim in N M

Hi Kestrel,

Don't forget that fasteners are also rated by the quality of the steel they are made of. You might not want to use the cheapest ones you can find in applications where your livelihood or your safety is involved.

Tractor supply sell by the lb. Pick out you what you need most and don't end up with a lot of what you don't use. That is the cheapest way/place I've found to buy fastners.

I second the suggestion for Tractor Supply. Quality is not the greatest, mostly Grade 2, but prices are as good as you will find.
