I am VERY new to the tractor field and I am gettig ready to change the oil in my grandfathers WD45. Where is the oil fill located, is it the cap that looks like a breather underneath the hood?

Old told you where the oil fill cap is- the one just forward of the distributor. You are right about the breather under the hood- it is a breather cap..... not an oil fill. Best to get an OPERATOR manual- tells you about all the lube requirements and controls, fill and drain plugs for the several systems as well as rear end, final drives, etc- all according to ambient temps that you run the tractor in- that is also important. Also details about setting the hydraulic system for what you want it to do. Best fifteen bucks you can spend.

I appreciate all the help and yes I did see the power sterring/pump underneath of the hood. The guy with the oil in the exhaust pipe doesn't make me feel so stupid now.

Factory power steering was an option not offered before 1956- does your tractor have it? Should be a small tank mounted under the hood- that is the oil reservoir- if it is factory.

Well if you look at where the distibutor is mounted just forward of it and on the same casting area is where you add/fill the engine oil. Theres also one under the hood but you have to remove the hood to be able to use that place.
