Sure hope some of you have some ideas. Just a poor farmer with less $ than sense. I need to build a system that will allow me to hoist somethig off a trailer or lift to load. I can back under the load so no need for rails. I have on one trailer now a load that has to be lifted about 18 inchs. I can lift one end with a loader so if I had a method to lift the other end (16') I would be home free. I hope to have a 2 ton capicity or better. $ will probably prevent a remote electric winch but would be nice to operate it from the loader when both are needed. Thanks for any idea's/suggestions and help. Bob

Sounds like my problem. I have a 16'x8'x12' storage shed loaded on a hay trailer. I have 1.5 millon $ worth of woods machinery at my disposal but nothing with a fork type bucket. Thus no way to lift it. It was lifted with a crane at the loading site. so I did some horse trading with a freind, and he came over with his 644 JD front end loader and 16'forks and put'er right were it needed to go. Sometimes it's just better not to doit yourself. Sorry.

Where in the world did you get 16' forks? How did you keep the JD rear end on the ground???

A-frame and winch on one end, loader on the other? Or blocking and cross beam on one end, loader on the other? Neighbor with second loader?

hey bob,

how bout an A-frame ??? you could drive thru or back under it... with a chain hoist or powered winch... lift the load and drive off.....

what are you going to do with the load once it's lifted and your trailer is removed ???

something like this

Link

or did I miss something ???

Hi Bob,

You need to make a first class lever. Think of a playground teeter toter. Distance "A" (your end) as being longer than the "B" end (load end) and "C" the pivot post.

If "A" was 10ft long and "B" 2ft with "C" 3ft high then if you applied 150lbs to point "A" then you could lift 750lbs at point "B". 10x150=1500/2=750lbs

If you were to make "B" 1ft long then you could lift 1500lbs. 10x150=1500/1=1500lbs

If "B" was 3ftlong then 10x150=1500/3=500lbs of lift.

If distance "A" and "B" was 10ft each and you applied 150lbs to "A" then you could only lift 150lbs at "B". 10x150=1500/(10x150)1500=1 or 150lbs the applied force or a pefect teeter toter.

Spend some time reading howstuffworks.com for a better understanding of first class levers.
