Fix That Logan Re:Belt dressing - Anybody know whe

On your Logan lathe fix it, get rid of that old leather belt. Find the length you need go get a gear tooth belt turn it inside out so the flat backside is on the inside to run against the flat pulleys. It will run smooth and quite with little or no slip. You will have to remove the headstock spindle to install but the difference will be like a new machine.
On those old flat belts for big machine the old timmers used to use a little molasses on them worked great. Old machine shops always kept a old pour type oil can full.

Whooo, wait a minute here. I have an old lathe, about 1916, with a flat belt drive. It has no emergence stop bar. If it did not have a flat belt that can slip, I would not have a left arm. Working in the winter in an un-heated farm shop when it grabbed a jacket sleeve. It now has a forward-reverse-stop switch right where it can be reached with either hand.
