Slow Speed Water Cooled Sharpners

Are these slow speed water cooled sharpners any good for sharpening wood chisels or cutter blades? I was looking at Delta brand. Know they are probably made in China. What do you think? Thanks in advance DH

I have one of these. The el cheapo ones have one major design flaw... the water goes everywhere and there is no catch basin. It makes a mess so set up outdoors or use a dishrack drain tray beside the sink.

As for the edge, it depends on how good you are at sharpening. My 8" kitchen knife is like a scalpel. Pocket knife is likewise. It'll also do wonders on an abused wood chisel. Rough it out on a bench grinder taking care not to burn it up and then polish up on the wet wheel.

For best results, rough with fine bench grinding wheel, polish with wet wheel, hone with arkansas stone, then razor hone if you have one, and finish with leather strop. Then be careful and try not to cut your arm off.

I had a Delta that I used sucessfully to sharpen wood chisels. Worked fine. Didn't sharpen any cutter blades.

I have an older model made by Wen, and it does a beautiful job of sharpening tools. The flowing water bath keeps it from burning blue spots on the blades.
