cords What type of wire should I look for?

As already said, check the cord for identification. It's there 99% of the time, all along the cover. You might need to use a magnifying glass if it's quite worn. Cleaning and bright light will also help. Use the same size and type for replacement as a larger size won't fit the mechanical part of the case. And it will be the right flexibility.

The ground wire isn't counted as a conductor when labeling the cable/cord.

14/2 would have a white and a black as the conductors, plus a ground.

14/3 would have white, black, and red plus a ground.

If NO receptacle for power on the drop light 16/3 SJO Cord . If it has a place to plug in 14/3 SJO cord .

16/3 = 16 AWG wire, and 3 conductors, Black white and green

14/3 + 14 AWG wire and 3 conductors, Black white and green

Black = HOT, White = Neutral, Green is GROUND .

HOT is the Screw that connects to base of Light bulb

Neutral comnnects to Screw Shell of Light bulb.

Green is ground .

If you look vrey carefully along the side of the cord you might find the old numbers. If not, cut off a little piece and take it with you to the store. Most lkely 14 but this is a way to check. Jeffcat

i would use 14/3 cord because 12/3cord would be to heavy to pull around all the time
