thanks to all who responded about my 2 cycle fuel line problem. some feel the gas where they are doesnt have ethanol, theres an easy way to tell.
use a clear glass jar with a lid, like a baby food jar. fill it about 3/4 full with gas. mark this level with a line, i use a sharpie. now add about 1/2 inch of water, and mark that line as well. you can see the water seperate from the gas. now shake it up and let it settle. are the two level stillthe same? then no ethanol. if there is ethanol, it will join with the water, and that level will now be higher. got that trick from our chainsaw supplier years ago.

Years ago we used de-icer and gas line anti-freeze during winter months to avoid problems with water condensing in fuel tanks,. Nice thing about ethanol is that the fuel eliminates starting/running problems caused by water in fuel tanks because it burns it up in normal operation. We don't buy the additives anymore.

I went back down and read all that stuff.

I guess I'm the exception ? I bought a new sthil saw at least 20 years ago (my how time flys)
it sets more than it runs and most likely always had cheap ethanol blend gas with only sthil oil mixed in and it still ran good last fall and nothing has ever been replaced but the spark plug and chain. So I also bet I just jinxed myself and next time it won't run. LOL At least I'll suspect the fuel line first as it sounds like I'm about 20 years over due for a replacement.
