I was at Home Depot today, and there was a sales rep from Ridgid Tools today. He was giving out 10% rebate forms, and he claims that Ridgid powertools have a lifetime warranty if you register them on-line. He claimed that if you have problems with the tools, all you have to do is bring it to a service center to be replaced.

Does anyone have any experience with Ridgid Tools? I"m paritcularly interested in their 18 volt cordless drill. The batteries for my cordless drills usually last no more than 2 years, and it"s never worth getting new batteries, so I generally buy a new drill every 2 years. If Ridgid replaces the batteries when they die, the drill would be well worth the $189 minus the 10%.

I also e-mailed Ridgid, asking them about their warranty. This is the answer I got from them...

The warranty is for repair, not automatic replacement because of a failure. If a tool is determined by an authorized Ridgid warranty service dealer to be non-repairable, then the service dealer can submit a replacement request form under warranty. Miss-use or abuse is a judgement call the authorized service dealer has to make, and your closest Ridgid authorized service dealer can be determined from the dealer locator at the link below.

The Ridgid rep was correct in regards to replacing the batteries under the warranty.

There is nothing else to say other than, yes, the batteries are covered under the warranty. I have attached a PDF file of the lifetime service agreement statement to this message. It is also listed on the Ridgid web site at www.ridgid.com

....So, it seems the Ridgid sales rep who implied that I'd never have to buy new batteries again, was stretching it just a tad. Sounds like their warranty isn't any better than anyone else's.

I'm giving the Ridgid cordless tools a hard look right now. The question i have is is the lifetime deal still in effect? According to their website, it looked to me like you had to have the receipt mailed in before April, '05.

A contractor friend reccomended them to be b/c of the warranty issue. I currently have a 12V dewalt that will not hold a charge at all. it is basically worthless, but to buy new batteries will cost almost as much as a new Ridgid drill w/ new batteries.

Forgot to add, the warranty is good. he has had his set for 2 years, and has returned one battery pack, and the guys at H.D. just gave him a new one off the shelf. you must register on line, and keep the original receipt

Just got off the phone w/ Ridgid Cust. Ser. The program was just going to run until 2005, but is being extended on a month-month basis. Think i'll get mine while the getting is good.

I use tools every day making a living as a carpenter. I bought a HD Rigid skill saw here about a year ago and liked it so well that I bought another one just like it when it wore out.
I use them to cut cement board so They don't last me long.
I will buy more Rigid tools. I do not buy Dewalt any more.
Makita is good, Porter Cable ok, Bosh and Hilti are excellent. I think Milwaukee is still the best value. Pricey but the best. I own half a dozen Milwaukee tools.

Wow... it sounds like a great deal with the Rigid tools.

My brother had a ejector pump made by Rigid in the house he purchased. It went out about 6 months after he moved in. I took it out, put it in a 5 gallon pail and he took it to Home Depot. They replaced it with no questions asked. Maybe they didn"t do any inspection since I only removed the plumbing I needed and non of the stuff that is typically on an ejector pump.

That is a great warranty.

hi. for information ridgid plumbing tools,pipe wrenches, and ridgid power tools are two diffirent companies. ridgid power tools are owened by the same company that used to make sears table saws and power tools untill sears split with them. after sears dropped them the decided to sell tools under there own name and home depot took them on. home depot is the only the only place selling ridgid power tools.

So that explains why Sears shop vac filters fit Ridgid shop vacs and vice versa. Maybe there are other Craftsman/Ridgid accessories that will interchange?

Emerson Tools/Emerson Electric builds both the Sears and Ridgid Vacs,at least according to my research in shopping for new vac.They share many but not ALL parts depending on size/style.Both are proprietory designs limiting cloning by other mfgs as to replacement parts,filters etc.

As far as I know it is as stated at least for me so far I have two sets of the 18 volt drill,circular saw, recip. saw, flashlight dual charger, 2 batteries 1 at home and 1 at work the work set had the batteries acting eratically and I took them in to the C. B. IA HD store and they exchanged them no questions asked and said if I had further problems to bring it to them. Also have the 12 volt drill, the 18 volt jig saw, and the 12 inch compound mitre saw so I hope that the place stays around and Ridig stays in business. For the warranty there was no choice. I have had and used the pipewrenches for years and had them replaced more times than I have fingers and toes. They are real fine stuff in MHO. JGS

I broke a 36" ridgid pipe wrench using a cheetah bar. I took it to a commercial pipe supply dealer and he said that the wrenche was under warranty but since the wrench had a cheetah bar on it the warranty was void. Home depot or Lowes weren't in the picture then.

Was it aluminum? I have used steel 24 and 36 inch Ridgid wrenches for years to tighten tracks on CAT D6 and D8 dozers and have never broke one. I even use the blade hoist to turn them sometimes. Breaking one with a cheater....you must be one hell of a man (unless it was aluminum).

I had a 24" iron pipe wrench that I broke the handle off using a cheater pipe, and they replaced it with an Aluminum one,no questions asked,not evan how it broke ! I'm not sure about battery's tho,cause they would be like tires or brakes on a car????? Jim in N M

Yep, i have a HD 12 volt drill and a palm sander sofar sogood and as far as what they say yep it is one of the batterys went bad and i took it into the new store here in town and at first i had a problem with the young lady and had one of my A$$hole attach on her and she called the guy in tools and he had the same attach on her and he gave me a new battery no questions asked she did not know that yes it is a life time deal and sofar i like the tools.
