Air compressor plumbing hose

Is there any reason I can't use a section of old flexible hydraulic hose to plumb my air compressor to the airline? I want something flexible and vibration-resistant for the first length of pipe. I have a perfectly good section of hyd hose lying around, already the right length, with sound fittings that already fit the outlet at the compressor tank end. Obviously I have to blow it out first to clean it, but is there any reason the hose or fittings won't do this job?

I wouldn't do it because it is a used hose that had oil in it. The problem could be if you want to do painting. You may be fine or could contaminate your whole air piping system. Just get a new hyd. hose made up for a few dollars, that is what I did for mine.

I just put up a retractable reel. I used 3500 lbs Hydaulic hose to get from the compressor to the reel. Works like a champ.

I posted the same here this winter wanting to use or find horsecock to do my 10hp. Was suggested to use hyd hose and did. I believe what I used was 2500lb hose and I am sure it will last a long time. I won"t quote a price of the pre-made piece I got from TSC (cuz I don"t remember) but very reasonable.

My comressor has been set up that way for more then 10 years and the hyd hose still looks as new as when it was put on years ago. I just wish the air hoses would last as long LOL

I would say to check what temperatures are at that spot. You are speaking of after the air reciever, right? On ship the outlet pipe of the compressor was well over 300F. But that was a 2 stage, 20 HP pushing 280psi.
What is the highest temperature at that point where the conection would be?

I think he is talking about from the tank to the wall piping, the temp would not be very high at all, barely warm to touch at the most.

That would keep vibration from the compressor from resounding throughout the air lines.
My only suggestion would be to put a shutoff between the compressor and the hose so you can shut it off if it ever blows.

About 5 years ago I was at an auction at a gas station, they had a retractable reel with 50 feet of 1/2 inch hose connected to a air pump to dispense tran fluid out of a 50 gallon barrel. I got it bought reasonable and blew it out with kerosene and attached it to the compressor.Works great with the 3/4 Sioux impact and for sandblasting. It is a little stiff because it is steel braided, but it works.

Been thinking of doing the same thing when I re-plumb the air line in my shop. Probably someone will come in here and say it won't be safe or something, but I sure don't know why it won't work. After-all, the hydraulic hose is rated for much more pressure than your air compressor will make.
