I have been thinking about buying a new air compressor for my garage. I work on my tractor, jeep, 4 wheeler and such and would like to have a floor mount upright, 2 stage compressor. What are some of things I should be looking for and what are some of the good brands?

I have had an Ingersoll Rand for about 15 years and have had excellent service. It is a 5hp 2 stage. when I replace it I'll probably upgrade to a 7.5 hp. 2 stage is the only way to go, because it keeps the air pressure more constant, when useing airtools.

In two stage units, you will find most are 5 or 7.5 horse and virtually all are 80 gal tank. Lots of good units on the market, depends on how much you have to spend.

Most will agree that Quincy is very good, Emglo (now the Jenny steam cleaner people) is good, and Champion are also good units. If you are not going to have heavy use, the Cambell-Hausfeld unit and its private labeled versions such as Husky and FarmHand and similar second and third tier units are quite acceptable also.
