wood boring insect

this is off the topic a little but i thought there was maybe alot of you in here that burn wood for heating. i cut some wood and a insect that looks like a wasp but maybe a little bigger with yellow stripes toward there rear part. by the way im from ohio thanks RICK

Down here in fl I've seen the same thing.. looks like a skinny bumble bee.. or a 'super' yellow jacket. Will bore into 2x4's.. etc..

Do a search on the Emerald Ash Borer and you will get all the info you need. By the picture it doesn't look like that's what you found, but better safe than sorry.

IF the wood is Ash then you had better have the county agent examine the insect and the wood if there is any question AT ALL as to what kind of wood it is.The Ash Borer is a VERY destructive insect and there is a drive to erradicate it by the government.For the sake of every Ash tree in the country,do it tomorrow.We are quaranteened here in this county.No Ash wood can be taken out of the county and must be burned before spring when the larva hatches out.

It could be either a wasp or bee. There are wood boring types of each. One is called a carpenter bee not sure the name for the wasp
