I bought a craftsman metric set a couple of years ago. I guess I should have checked into it closer. Now I am finding out that the set is full of worthless sizes and totaling lacking any variety in the sizes that a person really uses. The set has only one pitch size for the 6MM, 8MM, 10MM, & 12MM bolt sizes. The pitch they do have is considered the "medium" pitch for that particular bolt size. I find myself having to go to the local harware store and buy the right pitch tap & die when I need it. The set contains weird sizes like 7MM, 9MM and 11MM, none of which I have ever used. I paid a good dollar for this set and I think I was ripped off. I am PO'd at Sears and I don't think I will buy any more of their junk. Now I'm done venting.

I just bought individual metric ones and keep them in little cheap cabinet with small plastic drawers on my bench along with the drills sized for tapping. MSC and McMaster Carr sell quality ones individually and also empty boxes and cabinets to put your own set together.

I was looking to get a tap and die set and looked at the ones at Sears. The two sets I could afford did not include the sizes I use the most so I waited and looked around some more. I'm glad I checked the sizes before buying. I use 1/4x20 a lot and assumed it was common enough to be in any set but I was wrong. James

I have one of those sets too, although I am not complaining, I bought it cheap enough, will never pay full price for anything at Sears. Never have figured out what the 6.3x1 tap and die are for!

6.3? 1/4 inch is 6.25, maybe somebodies idea of metric designation for 1/4 inch? RN

I guess maybe you should have checked to see if the sizes met your needs, before buying it?

I never have figured out what folks seem to think is so "warm and fuzzy" about Sears tools, anyhow?

Funny I could never figure out why people pay those extremly high prices (the tool boxes are the extreme) from the guys who only sell out of a truck. And if you ever get them paid off they will quit stopping by,then you have real fun getting warranty done.

We buy them because they work, unlike most Sears tools.Sure they cost more, but like the old saying;you get what you pay for.
Bob,why would they stop coming by when you get them paid off? Do you think they would just stay home if everyone was paid off? ~brad
