What is the current cost per lineal foot for your standard 8" by 8' tall basement wall including the 8"x 16" footing? Please state your location so we can compare. Thanks.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think I did the math correctly:

Footing: 8"/12" = .666 x ( 1'-4" 4/12 =.333 so 1.333) .666 (8")thick x 1.333 (16") wide = .887 x 1 foot long = .887 cubic feet / 27 cubic feet per cubic yard = 0.328 of a cubic yard x $90.00 cubic yard = $29.52 per foot for the dimensions given at the price of $90.00 per cubic yard

Wall: 8" divide by 12" = .666 x 8'-0" tall x 1'-0" long = 5.3 cubic feet divided by 27 ( 27 cubic feet per cubic yard ) = 0.197 of a cubic yard of concrete per 1 foot long section of the wall dimensions given x $90.00/cubic yard ( local price may vary ) = $17.73 per foot at $90.00 per yard, this is raw material cost only, must include a contractors cost for placing forms, reinforcing bars, stripping forms, form materials like tiebacks and release agent spray etc., also 10% profit 10% overhead.

You can take 0.328 of a cubic yard and multiply your by your local concrete cubic yard prices for the raw material cost per foot of the footing and do the same for the wall, taking 0.197 x your local cubic yard price for raw material, which will give the same result for the wall per foot.

A 60'-0" x 60'-0" foundation at $90.00 per cubic yard at the dimensions given: (4 sides) 60'-0" each = 240 feet of footing and wall. The combined price per foot of both is $29.52 + $17.73 = $47.25 so 240 feet x $47.25 = $11,340.00 for raw material at $90.00 per yard.

Again, I just felt like doing the math here to help, I could be off, it's been awhile but I used to accurately estimate concrete quite often in the construction industry.

Always check your math ! CORRECTION in reply to Billy NY, 03-13-2006 17:30:25
See what happens when you leave a zero out or a decimal is off ! Many times a contractor will have to retract a bid or if you are #2 low bid and you find an error like this, you can legally become low bidder, in the public sector that is.

CORRECTION: should be 0.0328 or .032 of a cubic yard per foot, for the footing x $90.00 per yard = $2.88 per foot for raw material.( NOT .328 of a cubic yard per 1 foot of footing )

Wall calculation checks out ( I think, but I think I'm also diggin a hole here LOL smoke pouring out now, hate when I make an error LOL ! hard to find it sometimes )

Sample foundation 60'-0" x 60'-0" walls are correct at $17.73 per foot + $2.88 per foot on the footing = footing and wall per foot cost of $20.64 per foot, raw material cost, so 240 feet x $20.64 = $4953.60 total cost ! Hmmm $11,340.00 - $4953.60 = a $6386.40 difference...oops

Yes folks, that is a substantial savings passed on to you from the idiot ( me ) who erroneously used the wrong figure to do the math LOL. I knew something was up when I came up with 126 cubic yards for a 60'-0" x 60'-0" foundation, that is 11 trucks, does not take 11 trucks or that many yards to do that size foundation, hmmm better check the math, hopefully this gets posted before someone else sees the gross mathematical error !!!!

Cubic yards for footing: .032 cu. yd. per foot x 240 = 7.68 cu. yds

Cubic yards for the wall .197 cu. yd. per foot x 240 = 47. 28

Total 47.28 + 7.68 = 54.96 or 55.00 cubic yards, order 56.00 cubic yards, about 5 full truck loads makes more sense than the 126 yards I came up with for this sample.

mpuller, Concrete cost here in Central Texas is up to an average of $90.00/yd. So a 10 yd truck is costing the better part of $1000, after taxes. You can figure from that input cost. Hope that helps.
Later,
John A.

Here in Southeast SD the new spring rate is $41.50 for 8 ft., $27.50 for 4 ft. This includes 8"x16" footing. Footings alone are $9.50. Concrete went up at all plants $7.00 this spring.
