Have seen on E Bay John Deere sockets and wrenches, does anyone know who makes them, are they U.S.A. made or foreign. Thanks Don c

My friend had a set of JD wrenches and broke one, he took it to a jd dealer, and every one of the wrenches there said Taiwan on it. That's what they gave him for a replacement too.

The guys at the parts counter at our local JD dealer said the tools are now made by Stanley.

I bought lots of them in the 70s and 80s when I was working at Deere dealerships. The rachets were fine-tooth, slipped and were junk, sockets overly thick, but the combo wrenches pretty handy. Deere reps. at the time told me that Bonney Tool and Utica Tool made them.
I've had many sockets replaced when they cracked, and the new ones from Deere have all been Chinese made - nothing like the originals. Sadly to say, the Chinese sockets have NOT been breaking.

Years ago we had a forge company in the local town of Greenfield, Ohio that made wrenches and specialty tools. One day as I was following the plant manager back thru the plant, he stopped at a place where there was some over run tools...boxes full...two or three tons...been there accumulating for a while. He told the fellow at that work station to get rid of them...and then turned to me and asked me if I wanted them. I only had a 49 chevy half ton but made a couple of trips and there was chisels that had the John Deere name on them. So they probably put them out for bids to a good quality tool company. This company was Mecto as I recall. I probably still have some of them. Fred OH

i bought a few JD brand wrenches from the JD dealer i worked for in the mid 1990's. they seem to have good quality, but don't know which company actually produced them. they were cheaper than snap-on and mac, but higher than craftsman.

I mentioned this on the johnnypopper board yesterday. Dad bought a 1/2" drive set from the local Deere dealer back in the mid to late 70s.
We were told at the time that these were made by Snap-On. They were identical to the Snap-On sockets of the time, only with John Deere stamped on them. These were as I remember about 2/3s the cost of Snap-On.

I had bought some back in the early 70's from a local dealer, and they told me that they we're made by "Uitica tool co," Also has USA stamped on them. Hope this helps.
