Kinky cables

Will an old electrode holder with a weak spring cause the pos. cable to kink? the rod holder gets warm sometimes but hate to replace it, we been threw a lot together, sentemental I guess. [spell that cheap!]

Hi Slag, Try taking apart the handle to make sure the cable to connector is tight. Heat in either clamp is from resistance, bad connection. The rod should bend easy with out poping out of the electrode holder if the spring is good. If it needs replaced, Tweeco makes the best clamps and twist connectors.

Slag the answer is no. what you need is new cables, what is most likely is that the insulation has deteriorated and most likely the copper is also, If you don't want to part with the old holder try to get the spring replaced or tightened, but do get new cables the same size or larger.good luck

Is it actually welding cable or just a large copper wire? Go to a welding supply house and get cable made for welders. It should'nt give you the problem you describe, unless your constantly running them over with a bulldozer.Good luck
