Try this website: Link On the left side of the page under maintenance, you'll see wiring diagragms. You should be able to find some help there.

You say it turns over but won't crank. If it "turns over", it must be cranking. Do you mean it turns over or "cranks" very slow? How was it cranking before you messed with it? Be sure both battery terminals are shiny clean, then be sure both cable clamps are shiny clean on the inside. Then go to the other end of the cables. Be sure the connection to the starter is shiny clean. Go to the cable end that is ground, and use a right angle grinder with a power wire cup brush to clean the area on the frame or casting where the cable attaches. Then clean the end of the cable. Be sure all connections are tight. If this doesn't fix the problem, the tractor will start much better when you find the real problem.

I'm not sure why you thought that changing out the starter solenoid would have anything to do with starting, other than spinning the starter.. which you said that it did.

The 8n oem 3 terminal solenoid is internally hot, and uses ground switching to activate.. as you found out.. most modern solenoids need switched power to work.

Now.. follow the votls. wheter you have a side or front mount distrib. Find the wires at the back of your key switch. One will have power .. the other won't. the one that doesn't runs to your coil.. may run thru a resistor.. etc. If your ignition switch doesn't have power.. start tracting the wires back.

Which type of distributor does this tractor have? If it's the old style with the distributor up front so you can tear your hands up on the fan and the radiator then it has that big coil that sits on top of it. Make sure (either type of distributor) that the resistor is good. If the relay is bad then you won't get any juice to the distributor. Don't by-pass the relay and go straight to the coil. It will short out the coil if it's the big one that sits on top of the distributor in the front. Don't know if this is any help, but hope it helps out.

Check to see if you have voltage to the coil. My guess is you hooked up a wire wrong and you don't have voltage to the coil
