Anyone know the differences between 12v and 13.2v Bosch drills?

Back with more questions. I just bought a Bosch 12v cordless drill (for $5 off eBay!). No chuck or battery, but I couldn't pass it up. Anway, tested it off a car battery and it works just fine. Now it's time to get real batteries for it. It looks to me like the 12v batteries are much harder to find and more expensive than the newer 13.2v jobs. Does anyone know how the 13.2v drills electrically differ from the 12v? How about how a 10% over-voltage would affect the drill?

Always trying to save a buck...
Thanks

I have the 9.6 volt Milwaukee drill and purchased a 12 volt battery that looked just like it. It wouldn't fit, had an extra tang on it, otherwise physically the same. Ground off the tang and it works just fine. Got a little more zip though and have run it like this for a couple of years. L8R----Fred OH

Hi John, If you're in need of the 12 volt "XR" type battery, not everyone has them. But, they aren't all that hard to find either. I wouldn't hesitate to run the motor on the higher voltage. But if your drill has any electronics(variable speed) I'd be concerned the extra voltage might smoke something. Good luck...Al English
