Small pneumatic tires going flat

It seems like every wheelbarrow, handcart, pressure washer, etc. that I own is afflicted with Chinese pneumatic tires. If I go to use the tool after it has been sitting a month or so in the garage, half the time I find one or both of the tires flat.

A stroll down the aisle at any big box store finds most such tools shod with "Ching Sheng" Chinese tires, and a good number of them are already flat, sitting there new in the store.

Even more galling than the flat tire is that the tire beads won't seat on the wheel easily. You can't just air up the tire, the air spills out uselessly. The only way to make the supposed handy rolling item roll again is to go get a tire core wrench, a strap, and a rubber tipped air nozzle. After forcing the beads back on the wheel, the tire can be aired up and the tire core screwed back in. What was supposed to be a quick dash to get the wheelbarrow turns into a half hour project. And after that, the tire is good for a few days or weeks, and then it goes flat again.

Cleaning the bead seating area on the wheel sometimes helps, sometimes it doesn't.

Can anyone offer any handy hints on dealing with this? Fix-a-Flat? Some "fill your tire with foam" product? Inner tubes?

I am glad to see that I am not the only one who has problems with that cheap chinese made crap that we have to live with today. I bought a two wheel cart several years ago from Harbor Freight to use for an acetylene welder cart. The tires were tubeless and both were real low when I put it together. Aired them up to 32 lbs. and put the tanks on and put in the corner of the shop. Went to move it about two weeks later and they were both flat. Had a terrible time trying to get them to seat and hold air. Went flat again. Got two of those chinese tubes and put in. Two weeks later they were both flat again. Went to the CO-OP store and got some that were a different brand. So far they have been holding air. Have tried that fix a flat stuff, but have never had any luck with it sealing a flat tire. Just makes a big mess inside the tire and still leaks. I haven't tried motor oil but I would think it might soften the rubber over time and cause it to rot. Don't make things like they used to.

On every little tire that I've managed to get that cheng-shin tube stuffed into, they've never gone flat while sitting there.

More like an hour since both are usually flat. My biggest problem is not being able to get the bead to reseat on small, wide rims like 8 and 10". I've tried pneumatic belts, ratchet belts, and all else I could think of. I wonder if a blast from one of those special air tanks would work? I've seen it work on a 15" car tire.

Brake fliud around the bead and rim. Inflate using "Fix-A-Flat.

Brake fluid absorbs water and rusts things. Get a bottle of tire lube or try vegetable oil. Tire lube is about $10/gal and can make 4 gallons or more if you don't want to use it as is. Use it and coarse steel wool to clean the rim, wipe dry and swab some on the tire bead before mounting.

My tire dealer uses Murphy's Oil Soap - comes in small buckets (approx 1gallon.) Greases up the wheel & bead well and it apparently helps with sealing bead. Best bet is a inner tube, however.

"Snot in a tube". Silicone sealer is the only thing I have found that works on sealing the beads to the rim, and it sometimes takes a healthy bead on the wheel to seal up. I have it on all my small wheels, air comp, generator, pressure washer etc. I could explain how to air them up with ether but I won't for safteys sake. Oh, get some throw away gloves if you use the slilcone. Good luck, jackie

My local hardware has a display of a foam filled wheelbarrow tire, to replace the pneumatic tire on bigger/better wheelbarrows. He has to special order it, but apparently can get it fairly quickly.

I've had good luck so far with mine, hasn't gone flat yet, just gets low and I air it up. When it starts going flat, I'll buy the foam filled tire.

Used to use a product called RU-Glide to mount tires but haven't seen it for a while. Seems to have set the bead quite well. Now I just stick a tube in the tire if I am having a problem. Cheap China crap at USA prices don't get it in my book.

I've had good luck with used motor oil, I dont know that it has to be used thats just what I had available. Next time it's off the bead coat the bead area and I go ahead and put some in the tire as well, dont have to be much, couple ounces usually takes care of a lawnmower tire. Hope this helps.

I had good luck with an old lawn mower front tire that I thought was a lost cause. It had been sitting outside for couple years flat in the rain and snow.
I said what the heck do I have to loose. I took a rag and soaked it with slime and just went around the bead with it and blew it up. It has held for over a year now..

I have had good luck using the "Green Slime" tire products and similar knock-off products. I have a lawn tractor trailer that had the same problem you describe and I haven"t had to air up in a couple of years since putting the slime in. It also works great if you get a puncture since it seals the up the leak...

I can tell you from experience that drilling holes in the tire and trying to fill them with good stuff foam spray will just create a big mess and will not work.
