I have a muffler bolt that keeps vibrating out of the head on my chainsaw. Is there a locktite,(or other brand) that will take that kind of heat?

Use Loctite Threadlocker 266 High Temperature / High Strength.

First remove the bolt or stud and then with a bottom tap retap the threads all the way to the bottom of the hole(s). Get a new longer stud and clean the case threads thouroughly. Then apply the threadlocker and run the fastener all the way to the bottom of the hole and snug it down. Let the Loctite set up and then install the muffler and mechanical (Not Nylock) prevailing torque nuts.

Maybe you can drill the bolt heads and lock wire them with stainless or nickel wire.

It's an old partner P-85; great saw otherwise.

Try a nylon locknut on the stud.. If it doesn't work, your only out a quarter. Look at some of your garden and tree pruners, big and small. They have a nut with 3 indents on the top to keep the nut tight. Go to a Lawn & Garden repair shop and see if they have that type of nut. As a last resort, distort a standard nut enough to reduce the diameter slightly. Practice using a bolt thread that matches the stud size.

You might want to consider using a locking tab washer under the bolt. You might have to make your own so it fits the muffler.

They also make a locking thread heli coil. Round threads on outside to screw in new drilled and tapped threads but inside threads in heli coil for you bolt would have some flat sides. You screw the whole thing in with loctite on it.

If there are any threads extra.. might also try a double nut.

It's the actual stud that comes out so double nutting is out.

I guess I could try it. It the past, when I needed to bread nut with locktite I heated it a bit and it softened. I was thinking that because the stud is right next to the exhaust port it would liquify.
