Hi Mike, I have an '83 K30 with 8ft dump body. I've had it since it was new. It has a scissors lift rated at 5 ton. I don't know who the manufacturer of the lift is but it was supplied by Peabody/Galion as part of the dump body installation. The truck weighs 7,500# empty and I have weighed in at 13,800# loaded before. That's a payload of 6,300#. The dump body itself weighs in at 1,300# so that's a total lift of 7,600# - almost 4 ton. The truck has a gross rating of 10,000# so I am overloaded from that standpoint but the lift has no trouble at all dumping it. No sign of working hard at all. Material is 3/4 crushed stone also. I don't do that often, but I have never had a problem. The one thing I added to the stock installation was a check/restrictor valve in the hydraulic line to the lift cylinder. That valve has a nylon check in it that you drill a small hole through. That serves to limit the maximum speed of lowering of the body - something I found to be desirable, rather than feathering the control valve. Of course, the location of the lift mechanism relative to the body pivot point will have a direct bearing on the ability to lift the load and also the maximum dump angle. I have no idea if the lifts at Surplus Center are of similar quality/ability to the one I have since I have no experience with them specifically. However, they appear to be similar just looking at the pictures in the catalog and I have found that a scissors lift, as a basic design, works just fine. Rod
