Hi folks: Have any of you switched a Chevy pickup from a 4.3V6 to a 305 or 350? What all will have to be swithced? Pickup is a '91 model. The 4.3 is basically just a cut off 350 I understand. Thanks, Glenn F.

If your state has emissions testing, will you have to comply with the v8 engine model and year requirements?

Not as hard as you may think. Try triple "W" dot fullsizechevy dot com.

Also good wiring info at v8 s 10 dot org leave out the spaces if you know what I mean.

I did the same swap on a 93 about 8 years ago.
Some of the things I remember like said before are the motor mounts are different but they can be picked up pretty cheap. The other big thing is the ECM behind the glove box, you will have to get one for 350 auto or stick whichever you have. I can tell you for a 93 the wiring harness is identical I used my old one. The alt, powersteering, A/c will bolt up. As far as the rad I used the same one for a while I just cut down the plastic shroud. It wasn't a bad job I just didn't know anybody that done it so I wasn't sure what all had to be changed.

If its throttle body fuel injection or batch fired port injectors, not a whole lot of difference to control the fuel. As for ignition, the ECM if seeing four spark requests per revolution instead of three. It's going to be confused. You will pretty much have to strip every little piece, system, computer, wiring harness, engine and trans from a 1991 350 and transplant it into your truck. Unless you understand the systems, have deep pockets and like challenges. Trade the V6 truck for a V8 truck. You will save money let alone the extra gray hairs. You will be happier yet trading to a late 1990's pickup with a 6.0L 300HP engine. Those engines can be boosted farther to 375+HP just with improved intake pipework, exhaust system and a reprogrammed computer.

Its been about 5 or 6 years ago so I don't remember all the details. My son and I did his 86 Chevy from 4.3 to a 350 it was a carb model so didnt have any problems there but you will need to change to v8 moter mount perches on the frame as well as the radiator and fan shroud. We picked up the perches at a salvage yard so that was cheap but the new copper/brass radiator and fan shroud was $250-$300. It was a nice project to do with him but not just pull one and set another in. Angle Iron
