Would a $70 sand blaster from Harbor Freight be a waste of money for small clean up projects? It is supposed to hold about 40 lbs of sand. The hose is only 9 ft. long but that should work for small projects. Thanks

We've used that pressurized one for over 2000 lbs. of sand. The shut-off has been replaced a couple of times and we finally gave it up, controlling with the bottom sand valve under the tank. Make sure you're using a GOOD respirator if using silica. We're normally cleaning structural steel up to 30' long. Probably not the best set-up, but it works, and is easily powered by our 5hp I-R with 140 gal air tanks. As stated, you go through a lot of ceramic tips.

I've had good luck with mine from Harbor Freight also, they have the larger units (40 lb I think) on sale for $80 (normally $130), the extra $10 is worth the extra hassle of reloading if you use it more than a couple of times.

if it is one of those pressurized canisters that looks sort of like an oversized LP tank, you will be fine. we have had this one for 5 years with only replacing tips and fix the front brace. be sure to get a sandblasting shield to cover your face
