We have an Allis WD45 wide front with power steering that has a fully hydraulic loader mounted and an extra large bucket. Lots of weight on the front. Any way the 5/8 " bolt that secures the the front stabilizer arms to the bottom of the casting on the front end has been stripped and keeps working its way out at the most inconvenient times. Lok-tite was tried without success. Would a heli-coil work? My only knowledge of these is repairing a worn out spark plug hole. If it ever snows again this tractor will have to be used.

Yes the heli-coil will work, although I have not used one that large, we use the smaller sizes at work all the time and have never had any problems. Lock tite is also an exelent product but you have to clean the mating surfices with brake cleaner. Also the lock tite will not work well with damaged threads and the red is better then the blue. hope this helps.

I take it you can't run a through bolt? Is there any 5/8" thread left in the hole? I've had good luck with the heli-coils, though never that big. You have to be really clean for the loctite to work. Had trouble with a 1/2" bolt, helicoiled, still came out, went to grade 8 bolt and lock, better but still came loose. Put a 1/2" stud in the hole, bottomed it out, lock washered it & double nutted it. It hasn't moved but I'm still watching. I think a stud will hold more for the same torque. Could you tap the hole for a 3/4" stud? The 5/8 helicoil is gonna cost unless you have a friend. Hope my half/fast experiences make some sense. Good luck! Joe Fabregas [email protected]

Are the inserting tools for heli-coils the same
for the free running and the self-locking inserts?

The heli-coil comes in all sizes, I have used them up to 1 in. Thay will hold more then
the bolt thay are replacing. if the hole is
deep 2 heil-coil can be
installed in one hole. good luck
