Your 780 is an old bugger, at least it's a series N (newer style). The best place to fill it is at the 1/4" NPT air bleed plug on the round part, near the lift arm pivot. Use a good allen wrench, make sure there is no dirt in the opening of the plug. You DO NOT want to strip this plug. The vented fill plug is okay (bigger hole), but the fluid doesn't want to make the 90 deg turn to fill the unit, and you ought to open the bleed plug anyway to purge the air. Good Luck! Let me know if you have problems, this is a pretty solid unit.

Its full of air.Close the valve and jack the jack up as high as it will go.Then position the jack to where the oil return valve is in the highest position in relation to the cylinder.Wait a few seconds for the air to move up through the oil and up to the valve and then without changing the position of the jack, release the return and force the jack back down.Since air goes to the top, it will be forced out of the cylinder first. You may have to do this 3 or 4 times before you expell all the air out of the cylinder.Should work like new again.
