rotation of 220v motor

I have the same question unioncreek asked two days ago. To reverse the rotation of a 220v motor that does not show a way to reverse it on the wiring diagram, what can be done? The new
tank I bought is laid out in reverse of the old one, and the motor will turn the compressor backward unless I can reverse the rotation. It is a capacitor start motor.

To reverse the rotation of a single phase motor one simply has to reverse the connections to the starting winding thus reversing the magnetic phase that is imposed across the rotor during start-up. The run windings will be the thicker of the coils and follow all the way to the power terminals, maybe through a thermal overload while the start windings will be thinner coils that are 45 degrees offset from the main run coils and they follow through the start capacitor and cut-out switch located on the rear bearing bell. A 3 phase motor requires the reversal of any L connection however some 3 phase motors do not like to run in the opposing direction.


Be careful and play it safe that capacitor packs a solid punch!

reverse the wires on the L1 and L2 terminals of the motor and that should so the job.
