I have 50 gallon of tranny fluid left over from my daughters drag racing days---Do you have any idea what kind it would be? ..tranny was a powerglide..cleaning out the shop....could I use it in my hydrolic log splitter?..... Maybe I could take a sample to be tested .....any ideas?

I've heard that using trans fluid in a hydraulic system is the hot setup for winter use as it doesn't make the condensation that hydraulic fluid does and is less likely to freeze up in cold weather.

Powerglides used Type A fluid normally. That was replace by Dexron. The transmission would have to have had Ford friction materials to use Type F.

Joe(TX),
Yes originally the GM power-glide called for type A , which went to Dextron, and should be used for stock aps.BUT...high-perf. applications may require a different rating.Builders of high-perf. trannies like the characteristics of type F over other fluids.B&M sells "special racing" trans fluid called "Trick Shift" which I don't know about now,but used to be type F.~brad

Don, Alot of guys around here use Ford type F in their drag,& circle-track cars w/Power-glide.Should be OK for splitter, but if manufacturer has a specific,I'd use that.~brad
