This is a bit off the sites topic but I have come to view you all on this site as knowledgeable in many areas as well as friends and I need some input on a problem. The other night I was under my 2000 F-150. Stuck inside and wired to the right frame rail is a tag that says 'Defective Material Do not Use!', a picture of the frame and below that in marker "L/S Bad Perf". I took it to my dealer who had never seen one before and he is contacting Ford. What I am trying to find out is what L/S bad pref means . I have had LOTS of guesses but what I am hoping is to find a line back to someone with Ford assy. experience to tell me so I know that Ford is making the correct repairs or whatever to my truck. Guys?

Don't just blow this off and figure you will be okay. When you sell the truck, you will be liable for it unless you disclose the condition, and that will destroy the resale value. Unfortunately, this is the result of the ISO 9000 quality system implemented by nearly every big company. They reduce the number of QA inspectors once they get their processes statistically under control. The average quality might go up, but there is nobody to catch this kind of mistake. I would recommend contacting someone at the NTSB. If you bought this truck new, Ford owes you a new one, or at least a new frame.

Sound like you have an interesting situation there. You might check w/ the bbs on Link This is the web site for the Car Talk Guys of public radio. Click on the "mail and chat" and then on "car questions" ( CQ) . Lots of interesting stuff on this board, and though there are a few wackos a few regulars seem to know a bit. I think somehwere on this site you can E-mail Click and Clack. This sounds like just the sort of thing they might be interested in and maybe (just maybe ) might even have a usefull idea.

Hi Chris, I'll take a stab at it, then we'll see what it really means.

Left Side bad perfration on the frame rail. I bet the rail bent when the frame holes were punched.

Please post when you really find out what it means!
