Gents- I have been seriously shopping for a skid steer for jobs around the ranch that require a loader and good mobility. Is anybody familiar with the "Skat Trak" brand of loader? I can get a new Skat Track mdl. 1500D w/ 60hp Kubota for about the same price as a used Bobcat 763 with 1000 hrs. I'm not going to make a living with this thing, but I do know that new is better, plus I get the full warrantee.

Does anyone know anything about these Skat Traks?

Opinions? Theories?

Scott

Skat Trak is made by one of the big manufacturers of heavy equipment. I want to say it is Manitowac, but for some reason that doesn't sound right. I don't know about their skid steer loaders, but I do know that John Deere makes a darn good skid steer. They started building their own about 2 years ago, but before then, they were built by the same company that built New Holland's. I believe that was Fiat! Anyway my Dad has an 8875 John Deere (comparable to an 873 Bobcat). Before he bought it, we tested Bobcat VS JD, same time, same job, two operators trading machines. At the end of the day, it was all John Deere. If a dealer wants to sell you a machine, he will make sure you can try it out before you commit to buying. Try all the different brands and make an informed decision according to what you like!

I've a Bobcat 762-b. I have no experience with Skat Trak. My concerns would be new and used parts availability. Dealership support. That warranty ain't worth a hoot if the dealer can't deliver on it. I'd talk to some current ST owners in your area about what kind of service and know-how the dealer demonstrates.

And remember the resale aspect. That new ST will (by the laws of economics) depreciate much faster than a used Bobcat.

But I'm not cheerleading or anything.
