I cut mine in half and welded, it's been fine

My truck frame rusted so bad it broke by the rear spring perches. So, rather than change the entire frame, or junk a good running truck, I cut the truck in half just where the cab ends, and welded in a new (actually a good used rust-free) entire rear half of a frame. That's on my 1969 Dodge W200 Power Wagon. I welded it in 1984 and have been using it ever since hauling a full 300 gallon sap tank in the spring during sugar season, and firewood the rest of the year. I did nothing special, no preheating, no tempering, and used mild-strengh 6011 and 6013 rod with a plain old AC welder. I've been using it over 20 years and there's been no sign of cracking or any other related problems - except that it's a Dodge. I also cut the frame in front and welded in a fabricated mount to adapt GM powersteering box to it, and it too has been fine.
