O/T Did something Stupid ???

I saw a co-worker use a tupperware container to scrape frost from windshield, this morning instead of T.W. I used an aluminum(sp) soft drink can. Now have "scratches" on windshield where I rubbed it with top of can. My question: Is the winshield ruined? If not, how do I remove the marks? In worse case I guess I will buy a new one. Anybody ever have anything like this??? Please help. TIA.

Try 000-steel wool with Windex.

wet newspaper may help. i know it will take residue off window from smoking.. lucas

I knew it.The greatest bunch of folks around. I am very grateful for the comments and advice. Thanks to all, I am going to start with the simplest and cheapest and go until I reach a succesful result.

Any good auto glass dealer can polish it back to new condition.Usually doesn't cost much.

Years ago when I was 16 and borrowed my aunt's car and the rubber came off the windshield wiper and scratched her windshield. I got a can of Bon Ami and rub and rubbed and it came out and my aunt never knew it.

I think you just rubbed some aluminum off on the glass, no way a can should scratch glass, unless it had dirt on it. An auto detailer told me that he gets gunk off of a windshield with an SOS pad... Keep it wet, & use very light pressure. I have tried it, & never hurt the glass...

Frost in SE Texas? Are you sure it wasn't paint overspray?
Seriously, many years ago I bought some polish compound at NAPA to clear up a bad scratch from a bad wiper. It worked great, and was a lot cheaper than a new windshield. I recall using a buffer to apply it, but don't recall much else about it.
Try doing a Google search for glass polish, I'm sure you will find lots of ideas.
