We have a CNC mill, has a allen bradley bandit IV 8400MP controller. When we start the mill up to operate, an axis drive fault code appears, and we are not able to operate the machine drives. It has done this 3 or 4 times befre, and we had shut it down and restarted it, and worked,, now it will not come out of it. It has Simms servo motors, but would do this when the machine is in idle mode. Does anyone have any input on whats going on to correct this? could it be a relay, or a sensor, motion detector?? Thank you, ChadS

It might be carbon brush residue shorting out a servo drive. They need to be checked & cleaned from time to time.. Carbon wears off the brushes & creates a short... As mentioned below... Some of the guys at Practical Machinist can probably help you...

Chad, if ALL axes refuse to run, I'd bet it's in the controller. Does your manual have an "error code" list for troubleshooting? A-B should have a "help" number you can call. Look through your manuals for that, or try an on-line search for A-B help.
I'm not familiar with that controller. I've had some success with a couple of other companies getting some troubleshooting help over the phone.

Try posting at either of these CNC machine shop sites.
