I have a shed full of what i call the 909 fence boxes. They are quite large and are in a metal housing. Seem to be really good boxes. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get tips on repairing them and if there was a way to increase there output. Thanks for any help or info.

Scott, take it to a tv shop and have them put a capacitor from a tv in it. You might have to find an old tv shop, that guy will know what you want.We had a brahma bull that would walk thru 12 gu barb, so we put up a electric strand 5 ft out and he would smell it and walk thru it. I knew it was working cause i did the dumb@ss check on it, ended up on my knees.
After the tv man got done with the charger and i put a ring and chain in his nose, he was on his knees.

Yea for the home fixit guy that will take it apart to see what makes it tick!!! I used to drive the X nuts cause I would take something brand new apart to take a look. Now I know how to put it back together too! Us older school folks have a lot of skills that are quickly dieing out. From a farm I also fixed our charger a few times and also a couple of the neighbors units. I was the electrical wiz kid on the plot. Try a charger that took a DIRECT hit! A VERY discolored box full of all kinds of CHARCOAL by products! More power to ya! Jeffcat

I have repaired a number of them. These are the most common repairs.
clicks too fast- dried out capacitor.
dead -bad scr or diac.
erratic clicks -bad diac or scr
dead and burned 150-180 ohm resistors- shorted diode.
clicks ok but no output-bad output tranformer.may be able to repair this part
I don't see any cheap and easy way to increase the output.

Interesting this came up. I have a small about 3" square by 5 " fence charger from Tractor supply that died about 2 years ago. It is made of plastic and couldn't come apart without cutting it open. I thought, what the heck, it's no good, I'll just cut it open. I found a blown fuse inside. I replaced it and it is still working. What puzzles me is why do they have a replaceable fuse in something that isn't made to take apart.
