I have been thinking about getting a 12 volt cooler to use in my truck. The Igloo is a bit more expensive than the Coleman but they are the only 2 I have looked at so far. Anyone have any thoughts on which one would be the best one to buy? Thanks

Get the Igloo, you can get parts easier at truck stops and Wallyworld.

I have one in my service truck to keep my lunch and pop cool. They do a fair job if the food/pop is cold when you put it in. Stays cold as long as the power is on. They draw a lot of power so you do not want to leave it on all the time as it will pull a battery down over night or a weekend. Have not tried the heating feature other than to see if it worked.

Have 2 of them. As other poster indicates, they draw several amps and will run battery down fairly fast, if vehicle not running. They are fairly good at refrigeration, we use one in our pop-up camper. Run it off the 12volt supply on board. Works fairly well except on extremely hot days. Had great success keeping soda pop and snacks cool when traveling. WARNING - Heat function works too - Wife hooked one up backwards, and had canned sodas blowing up, and leaking all over the cabinet! (She never listens to me when I try to explain things to her like that!)

Good idea but they don't move enough btu's to be worth while. In a semi truck bunk I would use a 120V bar fridge and a 12V to 120V invertor. Mine gets used with a block of ice and the fan used to circulate the cool air inside. I even isloated the power to the semi-conductor cooler do-hicky. The external fan has also been removed from the shaft for quieter and lower current operation.
