Outdoor Boiler Creosote

I have a Hardy outdoor boiler and love it. Supplies great heat and hot water. I only use it in the cold weather, and was hoping someone could tell me what to use to clear the creosote from the fan impeller and related parts. Do they make something specifically for this or does someone have a home remedy?

TM, go to store, buy 6 pack of favorite drink in aluminum cans, go back home, get lawn chair, take lawn chair and 6 pack to boiler, sit in lawn chair close to boiler, start drinking, throw empty cans in fire, do this once a week, this will keep system clean. the aluminum reacts with the creosote some how james lee

I go to the dollar store and get generic brand
oven cleaner in spray can to clean the sap off
of the glass door to the fireplace.
Works great. Just don't breath it in.

The best way to clean glass doors on a stove or fire place. When the heat device is cool take a wet paper towel dip in the ash and wipe on the glass. Works better than oven cleaner and cost much less.

Thanks for the input, but those remedies mostly deal with the hard crusty creosote, I thought. I need something that will dissolve the sticky molasses-like stuff that sticks to my fan impeller. I was hoping for something liquid that I could dunk the impeller in. Any ideas?

When I have had creosote drips from the flue pipe onto the tile floor found Tile-ex works pretty good at removing it. May work in your situation.

Lowes, Northern Tool, and others carry a powder that is supposed to break the creosote loose and basically turn it to ash. In Lowes it's on the aisle with the fireplace stuff and Northern I know has it in their catalog, both places in 2lb containers. I've been using it with my wood stove this season but I can't vouch for wether it works or not til the season's over and I pull the stove out to clean everything for next year. I will say that so far I haven't seen any real buildup inside the stove itself since I've been using it beyond some on the door where the intake air keeps things rather cool, 'course I tend to build them hot and keep them stoked which tends to limit the buildup anyway.
