I was at the hardware store today and saw a special for a dewalt 14.4 cordless drill. with 2 batteries for 150.00 Canadian. I thought this is a great deal seeing how 1 battery costs 90.00. I already have a 14.4 dewalt hammer drill which I love and though a smaller dewalt would be nice to have as back up. so I open the package and look at the 14.4 battery packs, and they are almost 1/2 ths size of my hammer drill 14.4 packs or the ones that you buy in the package? whats up with that???

The new 36 volt is lithium-ion. It will be 40%lighter than what you're used to, will never develop a memory, and will not cause the tool to lose power as the battery wears down. There are also some new cordless tools available with this battery that will make remote repairs easier and more convenient.

Just got an e-mail from DeWalt with a preview of their new 36 volt drill/driver. All I need is 9.6 or 12 volts for the woodworking that I do. Certainly don't need all the weight of a higher voltage driver.

Costco has the 14.4 volt kit for $149 U.S., but that is with standard batteries, not XP batteries.

Hello, Dewalt has two different sized batteries
for the 12v and 14.4v tools.The standard
and the extended run packs. My guess would be
that to keep the costs down on the package you
bought you got the standard packs. What
you have for the hammer drill is an extended
run pack. For the price you still got a good deal
and those standard packs will get the job done.

acually 3 sizes, standard , XR, and XRP with the XRP being the best. I noticed It really does make a difference after I switched to the XRP batteries on run time between charges.
