We are new to the country and considering buying a second hand deovetec stove and apparently the auger is not working.

This could apparently be due to the thermostat, would you please be able to shed some light and suggestions as to what it may require?

It is going cheap and they claim all else works....but how would they know if the corn does not feed. Our gas bill was $600 this month, our first month here, and we need to do something, quick!

thanks a lot

Connie

Hello again Connie, The auger being stuck is usually caused by something like corn stocks stuck in the auger. You can unhook the two wires from the auger motor, then remove the four nuts with a quarter inch drive, 9/16 inch universal joint socket. You can now pull the auger and motor out of the shoot. If it has a bind pulling it out, then you need to hace the hopper empty and then help the agugr where you see it in the bottom of the hopper. If you want to check to see if the aguer is actually stuck without taking it out of the shoot, when you unhook the wires, then hook a cord up to rhe wires attached to the auger motor, keeping them seperated, then plug the cord into a 110 volt wall socket of extention cord. You can watch to seeif the auger is moving in the bottom of the hopper. If the auger is not moving, then proceed, after unhooking the cord from the 110 volt supply, to remove the auger. Please let me know if that solves your problem. Thank you for the opertunity to assist you and feel free to contact me at [email protected]. I do have AOL IM.

I also have a DoveTec corn stove here and I think that the gearbox on the auger is bad as it clunks and only turns intermittently. In another post you said motors were available from Grainger...Can you enlighten me as to which motor from Grainger I need??? Also how does the motor come off from the auger shaft?

Thanks

I read from a forum that someone said the grainger motor fits.....I have written to grainger and I will let you know what they say.
Sorry I am not much help, I have not actually purchased this unit yet, pending on whether it is able to be fixed without too much headache.

Connie

I recently purchased a dovetech corn stove for $200. It looks to be in great shape. The reastat for the fans does not work and the auger does not turn. The auger motor however does work. Can I still buy parts for this stove?

I currently use a fisher wood stove. I have 6 inch double wall pipe run for my smoke stack. Can I use this for my corn stove ?

Connie,
Sorry about that...I meant the reply for the other person. If you can get the auger fixed I would highly recommend the stove. Fantastic amount of heat and almost no waste.

Good Luck
