Looking at Drill doctor on internet. Thought I would get the one which goes from 3/16 - 3/4 inch. So , I went to Amazon.com (tool crib). Now I"m confused! They have two different ones. A blue one , and a light grey one. Which is better , and why? Thanks in advance.

I think if you do a bit of research, you will find the difference between the DD500 and the DD750 is more than just an added collet for up to 3/4" bits...

After looking them ALL over i bought a DD750 from amazon for $119.00 post paid..

Robert

Bought one off of e-bay last spring and it has 2 collets. One goes up to half inch and then the other collet goes from there to three quarter. Has 2 different angles that you can adjust to plus you can also sharpen with an undercut which makes a very fine point in the center so you do not have to center punch something for drilling. Really like it. Comes with storage case and complete instructions on what to do...deadeye

I bought one of the DD750SP models about 4 years ago (up to 3/4") and it has worked well. I use primarily HSS split point bits in my stainless fab business, and the Drill Doctor was a cheap investment compared to frequent replacement of these bits. If you do any amount of drilling and buy quality bits to start with, these are a worth while investment.

Go to the Tool Doctor web site. Four models and lots of info. I would LOVE to get the DD750X unit. Looks like what you want. Units go from $112 to $197.oo. At work the lock shop has a smaller unit up to 1/2inch. Does a nice job on the bits. Good even cut in metal. Just make sure on the degree of your drill point. Very well spent money. Jeffcat

Great news. If the new "X" products are like the former Drill Doctors, the difference between a 1/2 inch capacity unit and the 3/4 inch unit is one, store sold, 40 dollar auxillary collet!

Doesn"t the blue one have it"s own motor and the gray one use a drill motor to run it?
