They seem like good units... some nice features like alternator tester, variable charge rate, low line voltage compensation, cable storage, etc.

Son has a Vector VEC1086B, 2/4/6amp charger. Probably a little brother to the one you"re looking at. Was in the $30 price class. Seems to work OK. I"ve used it several times, usually in the 2amp mode to top off batteries in machines that are out of work for the winter. Wish it had an ampmeter to show how much charge going on.

That would appear to be last years model.

I had that one for about a year or slightly more and used it quite often to recharge the deepcycle trolling motor battery along with others in the shop both large and small. When I first started using one I thought it was broken, or had something in the fan when I first started using it, as it would let out a buzzing sound sometimes. I came to the conclusion it was the battery self test and diagnostics of the "smart charger" just doing it's thing.

Worked very well. One of the battery clamps broke and for 6 months or more had to be aided with the help of a "c" clamp.

I finnaly got around to returning it to Wally World (walmart) and found it had been replaced with a newer version.

The newer version has better clamps, but it doesn't stop running like the last one. Once plugged in and started, the fan will continue to run. Normal as I was told after contacting the manufacturer.

Yes it goes to float (at least as it says on the new version's readout).

All in all a good charger with a lot of smarts. It will stop and run through some battery design and size tests during the charging process.

I still keep a couple older style automatic chargers around because these new smart chargers will not even try to charge a dead battery.

I have a VEC1089-A. This is my second one. I had the cooling fan go out of my first one. I bought it from Farm & Fleet for $59.99 on sale. Fleet replaced the first one free of charge. I do like the unit.

I think they make one for both 6 & 12 volts.

I've had one since about the time they first came out. One quirk I've noticed is that it won't charge a completely dead battery. LED lights indicate that the battery is bad when its possible to charge it with another charger. If I just get just a small charge into the battery, it will start charging again. I really don't like it all that much. I've got other products from Vector though and like them. By the way, I've since bought a Schumacher solid state charger and its absolutely great - works far better than the Vector. Just my experience.
