kohler engine wont start

Hey guys ,i posted a message a week ago about a Kohler Generator with a K622, 24hp ,2 cylinder engine i got, and how to get it back to life after years of not running,well now i have it all ready ,new oil ,spark plugs etc but no spark it turns over fine but it has a Wico magneto Model X, spec# XH-2485c,,i am testing a Ground at the terminal on the side of the Magneto with the wire turned back which im sure should be the 12volt feed in to the magneto and of course no spark whatsoever when it is connected ,the magneto sounds fine as i can hear the spring winding and releasing at cranking speeds and i can see the timing marks turn through the timing window on the magneto ,
All suggestions are appreciated and i will report back when i solve this problem

thanks to everyone who helped ,i got this engine running this morning ,i took the magneto off the engine and opened up the back cover ,the points contacts had a coat of green and grey crap on them ,after i cleaned it good and put it back i got it to fire up for the first time in 20years ,i got to tell you it felt good,only thing to watch in case you guys have a similar problem is to watch the teeth so you put them back in the same spot otherwise the timing will be off

Just unhook that wire and see if you have spark. It may go to a shutoff switch or kill switch.If not try running some fine sandpaper through the points. If not that, replace the cond. Maybe needs both replaced as a tune up could be in order. Point gap should be set at .020.

It sounds like you are describing an impulse magneto. This would not have a 12 volt input, but only a grounding wire to shut the ignition off. Should fire at the release (snap). I could well be wrong because I haven't seen impulse mags used in years. If that's what it is, it's self contained and should have permanent magnets.

And furthermore, if it is actually a magneto, and he has fed 12 Volts into the side terminal ("kill terminal"), it is very likely that he has cooked the internal coil beyond use, and it's replacement will likely be required.

if there is a magneto there would not be 12volts fed into it. the wire you are referring to is probably the ground for the mag to kill the engine,this should go to switch of some kind on the operating panel..trace it back from the mag and see where it goes..good luck
