Y'all have convinced me. (see my previous post) I'll skip on the harbor freight special. I don't need another disappointment. Course that might just be what this is:

This is what I'm thinking about ordering. Must do this no later than tomorrow. I might tonight. Opinions please. Note rebate to get shipping cost back and heck tonight they're putting in a laser level too. I just want the drill and think the right angle one might be a nifty throw in.
Here's for $.11 more is a drill (same specs) with a light instead of the right angle drill:

Frankly I have 2 theories on why the battery life in my current drill was so disappointing. 1. Overcharging. It came with a 10 hours to full charge charger but I don't think the charger was smart. After 10 hours I couldn't remember to remove the battery. Give it a week and I'd pull it out again. 2. That flash light that came with it might have run the batteries down too low too often. I did like to use that light.

Well, it's done. I ordered the $100 19.2 volt from sears. 1/2" chuck, hi/lo speed range. It comes with, and I'm sure it's a cheep one but a right angle drill too. Includes 2 battery packs and a 1hr charger. Hope it turns out to be a good one. I'll certainly try to determine that within a year cause I'll take it back if it's crap. My father's 18volt Sears which is probably 6+ years old is still good so I hold out hope.

Now, given I can't throw anything away, any ideas on how to get my 14.4 volt batteries to charge to over 8 or 9 volts? Figure I might be able to breath a little life into them and continue limited use of that drill and flashlight too. Perhaps it the hour but I'm getting visions of jumper cables to the car :)

Chris;See about having your old batteries rebuilt.
I have had 2 18Vs rebuilt by "Batteries Plus" in Tacoma for 1/2 the price of new ones. They work fine.

I'll check into that Tuesday when they open. Hate the throw the old one away but not willing to spend $40 for 1 new battery pack when I can get a much nicer drill w/2 batteries etc for $100. Maybe I'd spend $20 but I'd prefer $10.

Yes at one point several months ago. Call everywhere I could think of. Can't remember what anyone wanted in particular, only that I'd need to spend at least $25 for a new battery. I tried to call Batteries plus just then but they're closed I guess. It's 7:35 here. I did check online at sears parts site and under my drills model number then battery pack and almost had to call 911 when the pack came up $39.99! That's more than 1/3 the cost of the set I'm thinking of getting!
