Miller TIG welder

I'm thinking about getting either a Miller Dynasty 200 SD or a Syncrowave 200. I know the Dynasty is way more portable and can run from single to 3 phase. But it doesn't come with any leads or regulator, that is extra. Other than that, what are the advantages/disadvantages of either one? I will me welding mainly steel, stainless and aluminum.

T-BONE - The Synchrowave is a transformer machine, Dynasty is an inverter. You have to buy the Contractor's Kit to be able to weld with the Dynasty.... and spend the extra $200 and get the DX version. Miller makes a Dynasty 300 but it's only rated around 250A and costs almost $5000. So unless You plan on welding a lot of thick aluminum the 200DX is the machine to buy. Nice thing about the Dynasty is the imput amps is only HALF of the Synchrowave's. I over-wired My shop to the extreme and I can't run the 60-70 amps the SW-200 needs where as the Dynasty runs wide-open on 30A. It's just a more efficient machine.

Hi Hogman,

Keep in mind I've never used either machine and basing my opinion on just the spec's!

Both spec's look terrible for what there asking for the machines. 40% duty cycle at less than 150a, that's looking at the Syncrowave 180 and the Dynasty 200. Both appear a invertor based machine. This would matter if your going to push the machine hard on a long welding job. I also noticed that if a machine doesn't carry atleast a 60% duty cycle at 200a, they usually don't have very good arc stability.

From that I would want to weld with one before I spent the money. You can go to your local Vo-Tech school and run the latest machines for about $100 and or take the class which may or may not help you.

I replaced my old Miller Econotig (had a board blow in it) this past spring with a new Miller Synchrowave 180SD tig runner. A tad pricey for the average play toy, but if you do professional grade welding or at least care about what your welds look like, this can't be beat except maybe by an even better Miller.
