Air hose

I'm in need of a new air hose for my 125psi compressor. Apparently a hole got punched in it and the air leaked out of the center hose layer into the outer layer and then spread up and down the hose making the whole hose hiss. I'm not really sure I found the puncture. I ran the hose through a bucket of water and the whole thing is fizzing. Wierd.

Now that I need a new hose I want a flexible one that isn't a pain to gather up. The first hose I got was yellow, think and stiff (at all time). The one that just bust is orange. Seemed good in the store but under pressure it's stiff too--but better than the yellow one and thinner walled. I've seen thick black and red ones. I've seen blue ones that look kinda like my orange one too.

Are the colors of the hoses just decoration or is there a difference in the hose. What's the best type hose to get? What are the pros and cons of the different makes (rubber, urathane, whatever)? Ideas anyone?

Ya know what. I just saw that this evening in the junk mail. It's on sale for $16. I'll get it this weekend. Sounds perfect given the advice I've gotten here. Rubber and Goodyear.

Now to post a message about cordless drill advice. I'm sure to get some varied opinions.

I have at last count TEN air hoses for around my little dump. When you see them on special for about $9.00 per 25 feet. I just LOVE orange hose and I mark every one of them with my name! Work days at the gun club and help to the neighbors. I can string hose to two of my back yard neighbors right from the basement! The ones I leave out year round are the old reliables. Car tires and blow off items. One 50' black construction and an old red Good Year. They both go back over 15 years and the coupler went bad on one. No hose problems. Biggest thing is don't run over them and watch out for the lawn mowers! Rubber will flex to like zero and sill work. Plastic I know gets a little "stiff". If you think about it.. look at railroad cars. From the beginnig with Westinghouse air brakes the hoses are always rubber. Last the longest and stay flexable. Up north in REAL cold weather an old hose will give up the ghost and break like a twig. Plastic wouldn't even make it. Harbour freght has both on specials. Look at the costs and make your purchase. Come to think of it... look under the hood ofyour car too. Jeffcat

any ggod year hose. they make alot of differnt grades, you just need to decide what you want.
i bought some at a flea market years ago, $10 for 50 ft and they are still good. they are primarily for tires and 3/8 air tools. I have heavier 1/2 good year for bigger jobs and they have wear and tear on them but never busted yet, and with two boys running around they get left out, drove on and about all the abuse that can be mustered.

GOOD YEAR

Hard to find a good hose today. My Dad has one that is older than me 42 and it may even be in better shape than me . LOL it still bends when cold. It is a dark red for what it's worth ? I have not found anything to hold up as well and still roll up when cold.

Chris, I was the service manager in a busy tire shop for 6 yr, the only hose that is worth having is rubber, and the cheap ones seem to last as long as the pricy ones.
