I want to replace a 23hp twin cylinder engine with a small auto engine to drive something using a pulley off the back of the crankshaft. Can I buy a ready made "universal" stub shaft and flange of 1" or larger to bolt up to the flange on the crankshaft? Is it possible to weld a shaft and flange together and have it survive at 3500rpm? The smallest auto engines have around 60+hp. I would also need a 3 or 4 sheave centrifigal clutch. And a govenor. Any idea where to get these things?

Thanks

Check the hot rod shops for super charger drive components.

Do you have a bearing and belt supply near by? A place that services gen sets wopuld be worth a call to also. How about a place that makes drive shafts? Another choice would be a Marine suppiler. An older combine or baler may have a drive similar to what you need also. Hope these give you a few ideas. I have thought of doing something like this but never had a big enough need. VW aircooled engines have been used for things like this. I have seen them driven off the pulley end instead of the flywheel.
