Opinions on truck tool boxes

Looking for a new aluminum crossover tool box for my truck. Probably be a gull wing style, as that is a personal preference. Would like a Weatherguard, but they are pricey. What brands would you all recommend? Is Delta's Pro series any good? Want this one to last.

I bought a used Lund cross over box with single lid last year. It looked like new and I only paid $100 for it. It has been very handy.

If you can find a good used one, that"s the way I"d go.

I HAD a set of aluminium Delta boxes. They were poorly made - globbed welds, poor welds, thin metal, junk latches, etc, etc. Switched to DeeZee and have been well pleased since!

I live in Southwest Michigan also, just want to add to the corosion bit. When I bought my box (about 7 years ago) a friend told me to seal it with clear coat before I install it. Just bought 3 or 4 cans of spray can type. Never even had to do anything to it except wash it with the truck. Which isn't as often as it should be I might add. As far as sealing off the inside I also added some of that sticky foam and that has worked fine. I keep my plugs in the bottom all the time. Never had anything wet inside also.

2 things to strongly look at. I know it rarely gets done but you need to polish your aluminum tool box as well, or get the white ones and spray paint them. Weatherguard once and awhile will have buy factory direct scratch and dent taht can give you pretty good deals. You ahve to watch for weight capacity. You throw some chains, binders, ratchet straps tool box stuffed with tools, a jack, etc etc you can get alot of weight built up in a huge hurry. some make it hard to find a weight capacity or carry capacity. (also some will start to sag the wings if you will support all of the weight.also depending on what you are storing depending on where you park it at night etc etc it may or may not be covered by your homeowners insurance when something is stolen out of the truck or you whole truck is stolen. likely they will replace the truck itself but if you have a 300 dollar box with another1500 dollars worth of stuff piled in it(like i said you pack alot of stuff in there esp if you never clean it out) you may want some extra protection. I put an extra clause on my truck policy to cover my tool box and contents insured for 3000(more then enoguh coverage) and was dirt cheap to put on but something that you might want to consider.

I have a Weatherguard Model: 117-0-01 Aluminum Saddle Box with the dual lock / pushbuttons. The box was first used on my F250 and now is on my F150. It is used in a very corrosive environment in S.E. Michigan on salt covered roads and in very sloppy weather. The box is holding up quite well for being almost five years old. However the aluminum on the inside is starting to corrode even though the box is supposed to be sealed from the weather. The pushbutton locks have had to be replaced twice at a cost of $70 each time. The locks succumb to corrosion from all of the road salt and the wet sloppy weather. The box worked better on the F250 than on the F150 since it tends to sit high over the bed rails and blocks the view out the back window.
