OT Video Tape

Any idea how to unstick a video tape? 8 MM and has been setting in camara since last July when I was watching ( have to use camara to play back as 8MM will not fit in a vcr) got it so it will go foward but cannot get it to rewind. Also have some tapes that have left go of spool, any Idea how to refasten to spool?

If you can remove the tape from the camera, Turn the tape over and remove the small case screws, you should be able to re-spool the tape that's either come out of or plugged up inside the cassette. I would also go to either your local electronics store wal-mart rat shack etc. and pick up a cleaning tape or cleaning kit and clean the tape path as well as possible. You can also use iso propo alchochol which is estintally what the cleaning kit will come with. Be sure to use a lint free cleaning material such as a cotton oxford shirt or foam q-tips, your can also look for foam make-up applicators in the cosmetic section of the store.

Esetiantlly what has happened is the oxide material on the tape has adheared to the heads of the camera and gotten into the tape path. Thus creating the problem...I really, really recomend if you get your camera up and running that you make copys with your vcr as you play back these tapes!

The tape is out of camara and shows no dammage when opened, just that the spools are stuck and will not turn, I don't thing the layers of tape are stuck to each other just something has grabed that spool and locked it up and I was hoping to finally get some time to transfer to the vhs tape

are you talking about the spool in the cassette or the spindles in the camera?

The spool in the casset, the camara works fine with other tapes

I don't know for sure, but I think there is a do-dad that keeps them from turning when out of the camera. Should be a button to hold down on it...
