The big push in the stores is for 18volt drivers, with some emphasis on 14.4volts. Also seeing some off-brands with 19.1volt and 24volt batteries. Looks like the "bigger is better" metality is taking over the marketplace.

I don't need all that weight and would like to stay with 9.6volt or 12volt - but I'm concerned that they are going to drop those and nobody will even stock batteries.

DeWalt is advertising a new line in the works... 36 Volts. They claim that it rivals the power of corded tools.

What I find interesting is great variety of new tools being adapted to cordless... grinders, drivers, nail guns, saws, etc.

They're pricey too !

Milwaukee is starting to push 28V tools to replace their 18V stuff. Pretty soon they will be up to the new-fangled 110V stuff,no batteries to buy, just a simple cord to plug in.. ;>) jf

Hey Dick2,
Got a Milwaukee 18 volt combo set, (drill, sawzall, circular saw, worklight, bag) for Christmas last year. Got tired of dragging an 18 volt drill up a ladder to drill holes in studs for electrical wire, so I bought a Hitatci 12 volt in August. Personally, I don't think they would continue to design new, and improve on older designs if they were going to drop them in a few years. I could be wrong, but just I just can't see putting all that money in design and development, and then drop the line in a few years. There's also some funny law that forces manufactures to make parts and accessories for ?10? years after discontiuing a product. Don't know if this is really true, but was told this by a friend that works at Lowe's.
Hope this helps,
JohnDeereGreen

"putting all that money in design and development..... ..... ..." Ever heard of cars? Or computers? I think the 10 year law applies to auto parts as well.
