Is it possible to repair the new non-adjustable carbs for 2 stroke engines ?

We have a newer string trimmer with an epa carb on it, and it won't run up. It hardly idles, if you try to open the throttle just goes 'wahh-wahh' and dies. The neighbor had the same problem with his trimmer, put a kit in the (epa) carb, and still had the same problem.

On the other hand my old chain saw (Stihl 056) with the adjustable carb works great. Same gas, same everything.

I would check the screen in the muffler to make sure it"s not plugged. You can soak it in carb clean or hold it with pliers and burn it clean with a propane torch. HTH jf

Yes, they are rebuildle, do it all the time. The cheaper units, ilke Weedeater, Ryobi, Poulan, Homelite, McCulloch, some Stihls, the box store sold units normally are a fixed carb, no adjustments, the premium units, like Redmax, some Stihls, Echo, Dolmar, Husqvarna, Shindiawa, have limiter caps on the adjusters, can be taken off and adjusted. some can be adjusted by raising the metering lever on the needle, this will give it a little more gas, but you need to be careful where you buy your fuel, get good fuel, replace fuel filter yearly.

I'am a marine mechanic buy trade. I work on EPA star rated outboards, All of the carbs are fully rebuildable. The low speed mix screw is still there on most models, the either have a plug hiding them or a limiting cap on them. You can remove the caps with heat and luck, they make the needles weak in that area so if you apply lots of pressure they will break. I take them apart all the time. good luck
